Sleep Deprivation

SLEEP DEPRIVATION WREAKS YOUR LIFE, FOLLOW SIMPLE TIPS OR VISIT SLEEP LAB TO AVOID SLEEP DISORDERS Sleep deprivation is used as a technique of interrogation where detainees are deprived of sleep. The effect is so torturous that even the toughest person can break down. This may explain as to why in our day to day life insomnia or sleeplessness pushes us to errors, mistakes, accidents and some behavioral problems. But the irony is while many people yearn for some good sleep, a lot of us suppress sleep for entertainments in the modern lifestyle. Both conditions are having increasing prevalence in society and their consequences, direct or indirect. Occasional sleep disorder happens with everybody due to stress, over exhaustion, illness, etc. but when it happens on a regular basis, leading to conditions such as sleeplessness or insomnia, for apparently no external reason it becomes a matter of serious concern. Frequent sleep deprivation is very frustrating and takes a heavy toll on body and...

Sleep Deprivation: The Effects On Mind And Body By Amy Highland, SleepHelp.org When building a healthy lifestyle, the importance of adequate sleep cannot be stressed enough. Both mind and body need rest to function at peak efficiency. Without it, your mental, emotional, and physical health suffer, potentially pushing you further away from your personal goals. When you sleep, you give your body the time it needs to cleanse, stabilize, and heal itself. How Your Brain Reacts To Sleep Deprivation While you are sleeping, the brain goes to work cleansing itself of waste, in the form of proteins, that build up between cells throughout the day. A study published in  Science  found that the brain cells of mice may actually shrink during this process to accommodate the volume of liquid flowing in and out of the brain, which appears to help clear out waste. The cells then seem to expand once the mice wake up. These findings support a later study that showed sleep deprivation had  a ...

Sleeping as a process has been simple since the middle ages. The sun used to go down and humans would start sliding into semi-consciousness and eventually sleep. Life was simple, to say the least. However, medical science has advanced exponentially in the last few decades. Overall, we have concluded that sleeping is crucial for humans to work properly in terms of  cognitive and physical skills . Even two days without sleep can wreak havoc on your physical health. As a perspective, in a study, it was noticed that even 17-18 hours of wakefulness is equivalent to a blood alcohol level of 0.05% which is actually the drink driving limit in the UK. Why Do Humans Even Sleep? Sleep – a word that has kept scientists intrigued for a really long time. There are numerous theories about why we sleep.  A good way to understand the role of sleep is to look at what would happen if we didn’t sleep. Lack of sleep has serious effects on our brain’s ability to function. If you’ve ever pulled an a...

Sleep deprivation

Almost everyone has experienced sleep deprivation at one point or another. Who hasn’t arrived at the office with an extra-large cup of coffee and announced: “I just didn’t sleep very well last night”? Although a sleepless night every now and then isn’t generally much to worry about, chronic sleep deprivation is a serious concern. Adults typically need at least seven hours of sleep per night, but more than half report not getting adequate sleep at least once per week. All of this lost sleep can have significant effects on your overall health and well-being, but one area that particularly suffers is your productivity.  The Sleep-Productivity Connection According to a study by the Rand Corporation, sleep deprivation costs American businesses more than $411 billion annually -- the equivalent of 1.23 million working days -- in lost productivity. Individually, the cost of sleep deprivation amounts to more than 10 lost workdays and almost $2,300 in lost wages every year. Sleep is vital to...

In the inaugural issue of the  Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine  (2005), a feature article 1  traced early milestones in the developing field of sleep medicine, which slowly emerged from the older field of sleep research during the 1970s and 1980s. Sleep medicine, the article noted, was closely linked with and made possible by the discovery of electrical activity in the brain. The examination of electroencephalogram (EEG) patterns that occur during sleep led to the classification of stages of sleep, which in turn created an important foundation for probing human sleep, discerning abnormalities, and discovering significant relationships between sleep and health. By 2005, scientists and clinicians had not only identified and clearly defined a large number of sleep disorders but had discovered that many of them were highly prevalent. The pace of research and discovery has only accelerated since 2005, and the number of peer-reviewed sleep journals has more than tripled. Tod...

Women empowerment

Women empowerment  refers to  making women powerful  to make them capable of deciding for themselves. Women have suffered a lot through the years at the hands of men. In earlier centuries, they were treated as almost non-existent. As if all the rights belonged to men even something as basic as voting. As the times evolved, women realized their power. There on began the revolution for women empowerment. As women were not allowed to  make decisions  for them, women empowerment came in like a breath of fresh air. It made them aware of their rights and how they must make their own place in society rather than depending on a man. It recognized the fact that things cannot simply work in someone’s favor because of their gender. However, we still have a long way to go when we talk about the reasons why we need it. Need for Women Empowerment Almost every country, no matter how progressive has a history of ill-treating women. In other words, women from all over the world ...
